One of my favorite things is to paint on location. This painting was created in Rush during Dublin Plein Air week. I tucked myself up in the sand dunes and found this lovely little path down to the beach. The gorse, grass and other shrubs created some beautiful shapes and shadows. This painting to me evokes that calming sense that the beach has.

Plein air painting out on the Old Bog Road on this beautiful handwoven Irish linen. There’s many strands of colors in this fabric which beautifully picks up the subtle colors in the bog and gives the perfect pink hue to the mountains. That’s one of my favorite things about Connemara is how the mountains are a beautiful pink.

I enjoy painting outdoors so much. I had the pleasure this summer of painting at Monaghan Plein Air Festival at Lough Muckno. There was this large beautiful birch tree that was on the edge of the river. I loved the shape of the branches and the light that was on them. With the painting being small, I tried to keep the details simple and focus on the shapes and lovely color and light. A charming little painting to gift or hang in a nook.

I enjoy painting outdoors so much. I had the pleasure this summer of painting at Monaghan Plein Air Festival at Lough Muckno. I chose to paint looking up the river. I love the warm browns of the reeds and the little lily pads along the edge. It was a bit of a grey day but the late summer fullness of the foliage was still showing off. This painting is done on wood and the grain and texture becomes part of the piece.

One of my favorite things is to paint on location. This painting was created at Malahide Castle Gardens during Dublin Plein Air week. The light cast across the path was so lovely and everything was in bloom. I wanted to capture that contrast of the warm light and cool shadows. A lovely little painting that is ready to gift.

One of my favorite things is to paint on location. This painting was created at Malahide Castle Gardens during Dublin Plein Air week. The light on this tree made it look a bit silver. I loved the shape of it and how the colors of this painting turned out. A sweet little painting that would look lovely in a nook or part of a gallery wall.

The soft delicate colors of winter. Looking across a meadow at the bare oak trees and misty mountains.
This painting was done en plein air. One of my favorite things in the world is to be out in nature, set up with my easel and paints and my dog by my side. I find so much inspiration painting on location. It evokes all of your senses and gives you a true sense of color and place.

That last glow of golden hour hitting the waterfall coming down from the Mourne Mountains. This serene spot is at Bloody Bridge. I tried to capture all the beautiful colors of the water as it tumbles down through the rocks. When I painted this the sun had just gone behind the mountain but there was still a beautiful evening glow. I think the pop of golden yellow from the gorse adds to the magic of this beautiful painting.

I wanted to capture this early morning scene that I experienced on a walk. This spot is a bit of a trek but once you’re up there it’s so serene and quiet. So many people describe my artwork as calming and warm and I think we all need a bit more of that in our lives and homes. In recent years, I have been drawn to painting on Irish linen. Ireland has a really rich history of making linen and I felt compelled to create my Irish landscapes on Irish linen, allowing sections of the fabric to remain visible. The weave and tones become part of the piece, adding depth, texture, and a distinct character that roots the work in both place and tradition.

Painting outside is one of my favorite things to do. I love to capture the energy and feeling of a place. Being there and painting in person keeps all the colors fresh and lifelike. The Mourne Mountains are a source of endless inspiration and I’m so grateful to be able to hike and paint there. Beautiful Happy Valley has a wonderful river running down the valley with multiple waterfalls. It was the end of summer and I wanted to capture the last of the heather before everything turned crimson. I love the sharp contrast of the golden grass and deep purple rocks. You can feel the late summer sun, like you’re ready to take a dip in the river or hike up the mountain.

I could look out at the sea all day and find it so serene to paint! I love this spot at Bloody Bridge looking up towards Newcastle. The day I painted this it was very very windy and I had to sit low with my easel hoping the wind wouldn’t blow it over. I think that’s what contributed to the waves crashing so energetically against the rocks.

We visited the Cottage on the Loch in Loch Gair, Scotland. It was such a magical place overlooking the water. It was early July and each morning and evening the swallows would swoop, dance and chirp out our window. I loved sitting out at dusk watching them fly just over teh water and swirl around the sky. It was a constant during our stay there and I stood out one evening painting them in the beautiful landscape before me.

My favorite viewpoint in the north of Ireland! Ballynagelty also known as Kodak Corner is luckily right on our doorstep and one of my favorite places to go up and paint. This is one of the paintings I did on location. This tree and the view looking up the river towards Newry is so iconic to this spot.

I had the pleasure of painting at the stunning Hilton Park estate in County Monaghan for Monaghan Plein Air. One of the most beautiful historic estates in Ireland. The grounds are beautiful and there’s so much to explore. I especially loved the view from the manicured garden looking down the steps to a more wild landscape and the private lake. I like the juxtaposition of the manicured and wild side by side and think the steps really draw you into the painting. My paintings ended up winning the People’s Choice at the festival.

I had the pleasure of painting at the stunning Hilton Park estate in County Monaghan for Monaghan Plein Air. One of the most beautiful historic estates in Ireland . For this painting I decided to create a vinyette allowing the edges of the painting to be loose and soft. The building becomes quite striking and the light and shadows give it shape. This painting ended up winning the People’s Choice at the festival.

Painting in the bluebell woods is one of my favorite things! Each year an ancient woodland near my house is blanketed in thousands and thousands of blue purple flowers. It’s truly magical. My friend Peter posed in the bluebells for me. I love the sense of peace these paintings evoke. I created two paintings of him in the woods and I really think you get a sense of how restful it feels to be surrounded by blooms.

One of my favorite things is to paint on location. This painting was created in Skerries during Dublin Plein Air week. It was windy and I think you can feel that with the waves crashing against the water. This little landscape full of muted blues and the rusty orange of the seaweed is a little bit moody and perfect for a little corner or part of a gallery wall.

One of my favorite things is to paint on location. This painting was created in Rush during Dublin Plein Air week. The wind was blowing and the tide was coming in, but I wanted to capture the colors and scene looking out from the beach. The jagged rocks, colorful seaweed, island in the distance. I created this painting on a basketweave Irish linen. The linen color adds both texture and color to the sand and sky. It was fresh but beautiful day to be out painting.
