This painting is inspired by Slieve Binnian in the Mourne Mountains. Ever since moving here the Mournes have been a sacred place for me to create in and escape to. The weather and light in the Mournes can be so unique, and recently driving past Slieve Binnian one evening the sharp shadows and dramatic clouds truly captivated me. Painting them on Irish linen feels like a conversation between material, memory, and landscape. In recent years, I have been drawn to painting on Irish linen. Ireland has a really rich history of making linen and I felt compelled to create my Irish landscapes on Irish linen, allowing sections of the fabric to remain visible. The weave and tones become part of the piece, adding depth, texture, and a distinct character that roots the work in both place and tradition.
